Rick Springfield Investigator Tells His Side Of The Story

(9/20/00, 4 p.m. ET) - Singer-actor Rick Springfield was arrested Monday night (September 18) on charges of alleged spousal assault at his home in Malibu, California. Springfield spent Monday night in jail and left on Tuesday (September 19) after posting $50,000 bail. Springfield, 51, has been married to wife Barbara for 18 years, and the couple has two sons.
A statement issued by an investigative agency representing the Springfield family, detailed what occurred on the night of September 18.
"Last night Rick Springfield and his wife had an argument. Rick's sister-in-law heard the loud quarrel and dialed 911," the statement read. "Once she had realized that the police were not necessary, she told the 911 operator that they were not needed, then called back approximately five minutes later to repeat the cancellation. The sheriff's deputies were dispatched appropriately; they arrived at the scene and conducted their investigation in a professional and courteous manner. Rick was taken to the Sheriff's station, held, and was bailed out today ."Rick and his wife are grateful for the professionalism of the sheriff's deputies and the system," the statement continued. "They will work with their attorney, Victor Sherman, to resolve this matter immediately. Although they had argued, they are happily married and will continue their relationship and raise their family."
